Windows 2000 was a modernization of Windows NT 4.0 which brought many of the desktop changes, including Active Desktop, to Microsoft's Windows NT line. Four editions of Windows 2000 were released, Professional, Server, Advanced Server, Datacenter Server. Improvements over NT 4.0 include new Accessibility Options, increased language and locale support, NTFS 3.0, the Encrypting File System and Active Directory. Windows 2000 was first planned to replace both Windows 98 and Windows NT 4.0 although using the NT kernel for consumer and professional editions would not happen until Windows 2000's successor, Windows XP.

From here you can follow the normal setup process for Windows 2000 and this should succeed. During the setup of the operating system, the mouse is not going to be available. You will not be able to immediately add the server to a domain during setup either. The reason for this is that Server 2019 does not offer Windows 2000 compatible integration services. These will have to be installed manually after setup completes. The latest installable integration services that will install most drivers on Windows 2000 are the vmguest.iso is for Windows Server 2008R2 (Linked below), but the 2008 version will work. Unfortunately Microsoft no longer officially hosts these on their webpage.
Recent improvements in computer hardware and software algorithms have made these protocols vulnerable to widely published attacks for obtaining user passwords. In its ongoing efforts to deliver more secure products to its customers, Microsoft has developed an enhancement, called NTLM version 2, that significantly improves both the authentication and session security mechanisms. NTLM 2 has been available for Windows NT 4.0 since Service Pack 4 (SP4) was released, and it is supported natively in Windows 2000. You can add NTLM 2 support to Windows 98 by installing the Active Directory Client Extensions.
This behavior may also occur after you apply the hotfix described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 327825 to Microsoft Windows 2000 Server or after you install Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 to Microsoft Windows 2000 Server. For more information about the Windows 2000 327825 hotfix, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
When you delegate permissions using the Delegation of Control wizard, these permissions rely on the user object that inherits the permissions from the parent container. Members of protected groups do not inherit permissions from the parent container. Therefore, if you set permissions using the Delegation of Control wizard, these permissions are not applied to members of protected groups.Note Membership in a protected group is defined as either direct membership or transitive membership using one or more security or distribution groups. Distribution groups are included because they can be converted to security groups. In Windows Server 2003 and later, the number of groups that are protected has been increased to enhance security in Active Directory (see the "More Information" section). The number of groups that are protected also increases if you apply the 327825 hotfix to Windows 2000.
After you install the hotfix in Windows 2000 and in Windows Server 2003, you can set forest-widedsHeuristic flags to control which operator groups are protected by adminSDHolder. By using this new option, you can set some or all the enlisted four protected groups back to the original Windows 2000 behavior. Character position 16 is interpreted as a hexadecimal value, where the left-most character is position 1. Therefore, the only valid values are "0" through "f". Each operator group has a specific bit as follows:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NTDS\ParametersWhen the AdminSDProtectFrequency registry entry is not present, the adminSDHolder object updates security descriptors every 60 minutes (3600 seconds). You can use this registry entry to set this frequency to any rate between 1 minute (60 seconds) and 2 hours (7200 seconds) by entering the value in seconds. However, we do not recommend that you modify this value except for brief testing periods. Modifying this value can increase LSASS processing overhead. The following list describes the protected groups in Windows 2000:

We have two brand new D400 laptops. They were shipped with Windows XP. On installation of a fresh Windows 2000 SP1, as soon as it goes to put files on the hard drive we get a blue screen. INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE.
We fixed the problem a couple days after the post. We were using a Microsoft Windows 2000 RETAIL cd when trying to install the OS to the laptop. We also tried using a Dell Windows 2000 SP2 cd but we continued to recieve the problem. We then got a hold of a Windows 2000 SP4 cd from MSDN and used it, and we could then install the OS fine. I would think a Windows 2000 SP3 cd might work as well.
I'm working with Eclipse Version 3.2.1 Build M20060921-0945 on a MS-Windows 2000 SP4 using a JDK 1.5.0-12.I takes my locale that is es-AR and sets all menu and context in Spanish which I don't like. So I had included in eclipse.ini file one parameter "-nl en".Since that, "References..." feature in both "Search" and contextual menu stopped working. I removed parameter and ran eclipse with "-clean" but still not working. I don't have any other clue about what is happening. Thank you all in advance.Beto
Full Tilt Pinball - registry problem W2kMany people encountered part of this pinball game, because it was free with certain windows CD's. Windows 95 plus IIRC. Named Space Cadet 3D pinball or something. The full game with three hi-res tables is available at the underdogs: -underdogs.infothere is also a version 1.1 patch:
On windows 2000 the package refuses to install. But I archived the game after installing it on windows 98. And I also had to export the registry keys. (reg file attached to this post) Bypassing regular installation, and renaming/removing the avi video, the game plays just fine on windows 2000. Yet when saving the highscores at exit, it writes the data incorrectly to the registry. To be specific: it truncates the last character of the strings. making the game lose track of it's location because it says: "****.ex" instead of "****.exe"
Making a shortcut to each of the three pinball table's executables and setting compatibility mode to windows 95 fixes this. Yet normally one uses the pinball table selection program that is included. In this case I can not start the games in windows 95 mode and the registry settings get messed up again.
Concerning the truncated registry entries, It seems not a common issue, neither did I found a common fix. I suspect this to be a sole windows 2000 problem, and not a Win NT/XP problem anyways, i will verify this tomorrow.
i have windows XP home sp2.... thus i have tested it on a newer o/s... i have encountered your error (with the truncation of the registry value) and as such just gave up on the table selector exe file (fulltilt.exe) and just made a folder on my start menu containing links to each tables exe file directly.
I also have set it to win98 compat. mode, Earlier in Win95 mode it ran all features, but froze my computer once. win98 mode seems stable for as far as I have tested it now. My OS is Win2000 Pro SP4 NL, with SP5 patch rollup.
I was doing a major cleanup with an external Seagate USB HDD due to low free disk spaces. It has two partitions/drives: FAT32 (using it for on other non-Apple machines like Windows 2000 SP4) and HFS [Time Machine only]). I threw about 30,000 items (copied from an old Windows 2000 SP4 machine's HDD with NTFS back a few years ago) from FAT32 partition/drive into the trash can. However, I am having problems emptying it. Most of them were emptied, but some were left behind.
PostgreSQL also runs natively on Microsoft Windows NT-based operatingsystems like Win2000 SP4, WinXP, and Win2003. A prepackaged installeris available at -based versions of Windows (Win95, Win98, WinMe) can runPostgreSQL using Cygwin.
