The impression that you make during your initial contact at a career fair does impact the recruiter's interest in taking the next step with your application. You want to present yourself as a professional who has researched the employer and is prepared to ask and answer questions that indicates that can relate your experiences/skills to the position or career path. The first 30 seconds that you speak with the employer can have a lasting impression, good or bad, we recommend you develop an "Elevator Pitch" that highlights who you are and why you are the right fit for the organization.

Screening CandidatesBy far the most common type of job fair interview. This interview usually lasts no more than two to three minutes and is usually conducted by employers whose main interest is gathering resumes and initial impressions before making decisions as to whether they will move to the next step. You will be asked questions about what type of position you're seeking, your interest in the particular school district, your experience and teaching methods. Your strategy should be to quickly point them to the key areas in your background that reflect their needs. Ask for a business card and inquire as to the next step.

The sole purpose of the Teacher Recruitment Day Consortium Job Fair is to offer traditional classroom teaching career opportunities to our students and alumni. We reserve the right to limit employers to those most appropriate for the interests of our students/alumni with Teaching Certified Bachelor's and Master's degrees. Therefore we reserve the right to limit the number of third-party staffing agencies, educational vendors and non-traditional educational employers. This may delay their registration approval/denial until a few weeks before the fair, or incorporate them into the event in another way. Further, we cannot permit solicitation or marketing of products or services to our students at the event, and do not specifically endorse any of our employers or guidebook advertisers.

With a recent move to Handshake, a career management platform, ELCM gives students the opportunity to learn more about the platform while further developing their career skills. Through Handshake, students can access employer contacts, schedule one-on-one appointments with ELCM and register for job fairs and related events.
